Puh-lease people. If the link to your LinkedIn profile is still not customized (and especially if you are in the middle of a job search!), take a few minutes to update it now. I was prepping to teach the college students how to optimize their LinkedIn profiles this week and I cannot tell you how many super-talented people still have a URLs like this:

why having a custom URL is important for job seekers

Okay, maybe if your name is Jane Smith or Bob Johnson, you’re going to have a heck of a time getting a personalized URL that is just your name. But, come on, if you’re going to be on LinkedIn (and, to repeat, especially if you’re looking for a job!), make it professional and ditch those numbers behind your name. Often times you will be sharing your LinkedIn URL on your resume, cover letter or when setting up informational interviews. Let’s make sure you’re representing yourself the very best possible way.
